It was with a heavy heart that we learned of the passing of a long time friend and talented actor and voice talent this past September.
I met Philip Williams in the late 1980s when he answered an ad I had posted in Now Magazine. I was looking for talented voice actors. At the time we were producing a radio comedy service called Willy’s Comedy Shack and Burger Emporium. Phil’s considerable talents allowed us to spread our wings to so many more impressions and voices. Phil’s career was taking off as he was getting small roles in major films. I still point at the screen every time I see Phil as the janitor in Good Will Hunting, or as one of the sidekicks in Tommy Boy. But his generous creative spirit caused him to become a long time friend. He was extremely talented behind a microphone, but he excelled as a human being. He loved to fish, photograph nature and play with his squirrel pals in the park near his home. He was a long time suffering Maple Leafs fan, another thing we had in common. You would be hard pressed to find an enemy of Philip Williams.
It was with Phil in mind that we decided to revive a radio play we produced in the fall of 1990. When you listen to The Kid Who Didn’t Deserve Christmas, you’ll hear Phil’s voice throughout, along with some very dated references to Mike Tyson and land line telephones. The radio play was the brainchild of writer, Chris Seguin. With voices from Philip, Kat Mullaly, Kelly Mullaly, Dev Robbins, Kathy May Allan and myself.
Please enjoy our audio gift to you and the days and months ahead as we launch into another year of the unknown. If you also lost someone special this year, our deepest condolences. As my late mother said many years ago, “Life is for the Living”. So, here we go.
